Fraser and his Wagon

Welcome to ‘The Wagon’

Fraser MacIver; cultivates his art career, home and garden studio on the banks of the Crinan Canal, Crinan Wood. He established himself at the wagon in 1997 and continues to produce a rich and wide ranging body of work there in a multiplicity of media and subject matter all derived and inspired by his immediate sylvan environment; in what can only be described as ‘The’ unique Idyllic home and studio setting, in close proximity to what is the cradle of ancient Scots nationhood. Steeped in the history of the past and with direct links to the outer Hebridean/Canadian Diaspora, this returning ‘roots rock’ Canadian lives with few modern amenities.

In his art , Fraser combines an international outlook and awareness of current fine art spheres of discourse, with a hands on art practice firmly grounded locally, in the traditional academic techniques of the past: Life drawing, painting and printmaking, the foundation of these three disciplines being his exquisite skills as an observational draughtsman with an intuitive sense of colour.

All his work is integral to his lifestyle living in the wagon all these years at the total mercy of the elements and the seasons. He works primarily outdoors (weather permitting), in his wagon press printing studio, and in the surrounding landscape and beyond.

The work you see here is but a  fraction of his total output, and a variety of etching series and subsets, all original designs produced, printed and optionally hand coloured by Fraser at his Wagon is growing in number.

Lifedrawing and painting tutor for The Fyne Art Club of Mid Argyll since 1999, Fraser was and is the primary catalyst and motivator for the annual Fyne Art Open Summer Exhibition in Lochgilphead which was inaugurated in the millennium year 2000.

Gradually coming to terms with a growing demand for his work from both a local and international clientele, and with over 28 years of freelance work behind him on two continents, the web is a relatively new media for the diffusion of his superlative works.

Drawing upon natures elements surrounding him, and their inherent beauty and deeper cosmological meaning within; he is an expatriate symbolist working in Scotland since 1991, and also a highly articulate visual and textual semiotician.

His works have touched the lives of many people and he continues to exert his subtle but far reaching powers of interpretation through his varied artistry, approach and execution in both his own, and ever widening spheres.
