QED Naval appoint Mainstay Marine and establish themselves in Wales

QED Naval is delighted to announce that it is to establish an operations base in Pembroke Dock, South West Wales, as a result of a fabrication and refit contract with Mainstay Marine Solutions. This initiative will further develop QED’s long term strategy of establishing supply chain links and developing tidal farms in Wales. Wales is particularly innovative and supportive of renewables and tidal energy and has a great resource to help serve coastal communities and industry. QED will continue to develop its tidal energy systems for the generation of hydrogen as well as for generating utility-scale power i.e., to the grid at MORLAIS.

This move opens up collaboration options with the Marine Energy Engineering Centre of Excellence (MEECE; and the Welsh – Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult). MEECE will be completing the assessment of Tocardo Turbines’ new Subsea Power Control Units (SPCUs) enabling them to connect directly to the grid.

As a great maritime nation, this is a great step towards using our free, renewable, and predictable tidal power. Tidal energy can be very discreet, help us care for our environment, whilst allowing access to our seas and navigational channels.

To assist develop industry and wider engagement, QED’s has joined Marine Energy Wales (MEW) to  help further collaboration with their Marine Energy Test Centres (META) which will also rigorously test QED’s technology and power control units.
